The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) respirator certification standard, 42 CFR Part 84, introduces new ways to select non-powered, air-purifying particulate filter respirators. One of the primary concerns of the standard is oil-mist exposure. According to 42 CFR, there are 3 levels of respiratory protection:
N = Not Resistant to Oil
R = Resistant to Oil
P = Oil Proof
But, how do you know whether oil mist is present in the workplace? MSA's 42 CFR Sampling Pump Kits can help you answer this question by providing convenience and flexibility in oil-mist sampling. When sampling for oil-mist, it is important to follow NIOSH Method 5026. MSA kits provide the required sampling equipment.
Method 5026 requires:
- Personal Sampling Pump
- Membrane filter, 37mm, 0.8-micron MCE
- 20L-500L sample volume
Note: After samples are collected with a
sampling pump, they should be sent to a lab for analysis. The
recommended lab testing method is infared spectrophotometry. Escort ELF Kit Escort ELF 42 CFR Sampling Pump Kit
